Bird of Paradise

A Bird of Paradise!
Wonderful leaf textures!

Yellow Tree in Vicinity

This wonderful tree is only a couple of blocks from my house. Its golden hues were especially beautiful in late afternoon.

Visit from Valerie

My old friend Valerie (on the right) came from the West side to visit with us a this exhibit. Our friendship goes back to the 1980's when I was a member of the Trustees of the Pacific Asia Museum. We hung an Australian Aboriginals show and had the best time.

Sallie Drops In for a Chat

My sister, Sallie, came in from the suburbs of San Diego. She has been a long time supporter!

Dear Friends from Afar! Allan

My pal Alan visited from Texas. He has been a collector of my artwork for many years. Among his collection is a 2010 color print similar to another photograph I took in 2005.

Visit with Sharon

The largest group to attend was the Claremont Senior Bike Group, but another was my communications group from Casa Colina, including Sharon, who was my speech therapist at Casa Colina at the very beginning of my stroke recovery! (about two years ago at this writing.) I'm so grateful for everyone's continued support.

The Whole Show

This is a photo of the whole August 4th party - about an hour in, and full capacity! You can see six of the seven photos in the show. Not shown is "The Bougainvillia."

Mounting the Show!

Final placement of "The Bougainvillea." Its white blossom, at bottom, is nearly the same distance from the camera as the pink petal above it. This narrow depth of field keeps them both in focus, and draws the observer into the photo.

I called on Krista's experienced eye for help with exhibit design, so I could focus on photo editing. She envisioned and sourced these black photo mounts with three main criteria in mind: elegance, economy, and ease of use. She suggested these posterhangers because they are evocative of  Chinese handscroll hangers - simple, cylindrical rods, each framing a unique story.

I was delighted with the "scroll" style, as it ties into my passion for Chinese art and history. In this exhibit, their simple elegance works well with the large photo format, and they're a breeze to install.  We've received numerous inquiries about them, so we've included a link here and above.

Viewing Images - Eschevaria

Friends checking out "Eschevaria." It was so luminous. The morning sun was just beginning to peek out from behind a tree that was shading the Eschevaria's petal- like leaves. The image was taken at the house next door to mine.

"Freedom" in the Lineup

Pal Mike examining "Freedom." When I photographed this young baseball pitcher on the mound, I didn't realize that he had prosthetic legs until I reviewed all of the images from that session! "Freedom" is a small name on the "bend" in the prosthetic legs. My working title for this image was "Baseball." Krista suggested "Freedom" as a candidate for the final title, and its metaphorical quality (evocative of breaking through challenges) made it an easy choice.
